Why Remember Why You Are Here
The need to create this space
It all started as a folder on my desktop.
Anytime someone wrote me an email, or sent a note that reminded my of why I’m here—why I chose to be here, why I continue to choose to be here—I put it in that folder so I could look at it on days when I wondered, truly, why I was here.
Then, it became something I said to others. When ending emails or corresponding to friends or simply giving care.
May the hardship sharpen your connection to the point of your existence.
May the softness of understanding find you.
May you be given a glimpse of that most healing thing of all—why you are here.
Then, me and everyone I know in these mountains lived through a world-ending event and Remember Why You Are Here was no longer theoretical to me.
In fall 2024, Hurricane Helene hit our mountains — destroying our entire town, burying my apothecary under nine feet of water, and sending our entire region into a state of emergency that lasted months. In the midst of near-death experiences and the excruciating reality of digging oneself out of ecological catastrophe, I received an outpouring that can only be named as angelic.
From around the world came love notes, emails, donations, care packages — reminders from loved ones and strangers alike of why I was here.
I witnessed, real time, the monumental difference of another person’s care. How this support literally kept our souls anchored in our bodies here on the ground.
Every single day that fall, once we regained power, I was putting something new in the folder.
And so we survived. And so we recommitted to being here.
And so, in spring after the hurricane, I started my podcast—Remember Why You Are Here, a place where seekers and sensitives can reconnect to themselves in this overwhelming world.
And now, a year later, I feel called to make Remember Why You Are Here more than just a mantra—but a space.
A sanctuary where, in the midst of the ongoing ruptures in the world, our hurt can be held, our wonder can be protected, our joy can be resurrected, and we can remember that most important thing of all—why we are here.
Welcome, dear heart.
